Young Virgin Goddess Yogamayadevi is the prathishta in Edanadu Durga Devi Temple. King Kamsan, on knowing his fate of being killed by his sister’s son, killed seven male infants of his sister Devaki by throwing the Children to floor immediately after she gave birth. However, instead of eighth son Kamsan got the Devi who comes to the world as the daughter of Yesodha. Vasudevar exchanged his son by Yesodha’s female infant even without the knowledge of Yesodha. When Kamsan attempted to kill the 8th child, the infant flinched from his hands by kicking on his chest and rose to sky and appeared like crores of Sun beams rise at a time; and that is the Bhava of the Prathishta in Edanadu Durga Devi Temple.
Initially, the Astrologers was against the intention of devotees to construct a temple for the Goddess. They clarified that it is not possible to construct a temple in accordance with the powers of Devi. The astrologers suggested the temple structure which should be constructed in such a length so as to fall the rain water from the roof into Seas. Such a huge temple is not going to be constructed by human beings. By the grace of Goddess, a temple was constructed very close to the Sreemoolasthanam. This is the existing Edanadu Durga Devi Temple. Lord Parasurama who reached the place installed the prathishta of the deity. The very same stone still exists as a great boon to devotees in the Sreemoolasthanam with indomitable powers accepting the Sun Rays, Wind and rain onto it.
